Mirror of Tomorrow
“Experience builds learning and memories,” a quotation formed in my mind, continuously feel and mark in my heart.
Way back the first day of entering the world of real teaching I remembered the day when I officially become a member of educators in our department/course. One of my teachers asked us, “Are you born to be a teacher or are you made to be a teacher?” Then, realization comes in my mind “Where am I belong?”.
Years passed by, I gain much experiences and learning’s until I find giving myself in this kind of journey. Every day waking up earlier than the normal routine of being a student and now I am facing the day not as a student but for my students. Making daily lesson plans, studying it, making visual aids, sleeping early at 1 or 2 in the morning and waking up as early as 4 in the morning and making the daily routine as a teacher yet with a simple smile and saying “Thank you” by the students, my heart is joyfully dance.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”-Maimonides
I remembered one of my students, he is a silent type, doesn’t even participating in discussions. Then, one time I give a quiz about the topic, I saw his paper doesn’t have any answers and only his name was written on it. I talked to him and personally repeat the discussion, after I am through explaining the lesson and walking away from him, he softly said “Salamat po Ma’am” which truly melts my heart into happiness and relieves all the stress and tiredness.
“EDUCATION costs money. But then so does IGNORANCE.” By Sir Claus Moser, this quotation serve as my inspiration not only for myself motivation but motivating myself to educate others.
As a student teacher, I also experienced problems physically and more on financial aspect while I am in the field of practice teaching but I overcome it through the help of my family, Ma’am Che and most of all, God. These ten weeks of being a teacher, molds me not to become best but better everyday.
At the end of the day, I realized that this is not just an experience but a memories made stronger by time which learning’s, friendship and love that I will be using as my stepping stone for the next chapter of my life. I will not cut down jungles of dreams, but I will irrigate the deserts of EDUCATION.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Ma’am Che whom to be my critique teacher, motivator, and a second mother on my training ground. To Ma’am Marietta Terillano, who happen to be our coordinator which is very supportive, and also to my Grade 8 students who teach me how to love this profession well.
Thank you Father God for leading me on the right path and continuously existing in my life…
